Surah No:2. Al-Baqarah - Verses 2:8 to 2:17

Verse 2:8

  • Arabic: وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
  • Phonetic: Wa minan-nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā billāhi wa bil-yawmil-ākhiri wa mā hum bimu'minīn
  • English Translation: And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): కొంతమంది మనుషులు, "మేము అల్లాహ్‌నీ, ఆఖరి రోజునీ నమ్ముతాము" అంటారు, కానీ వాస్తవానికి వాళ్ళు నమ్మరు.

Verse 2:9

  • Arabic: يُخَٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلَّا أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ
  • Phonetic: Yukhādi'ūnal-lāha wal-ladhīna āmanū wa mā yakhda'ūna illā anfusahum wa mā yash'urūn
  • English Translation: They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): వాళ్ళు అల్లాహ్‌ను, నమ్మినవాళ్ళను మోసం చేయాలని అనుకుంటారు, కానీ నిజానికి వాళ్ళు వాళ్ళను వాళ్ళే మోసం చేసుకుంటున్నారు అని వాళ్ళకి తెలియదు.

Verse 2:10

  • Arabic: فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ
  • Phonetic: Fī qulūbihim maraḍun fa zādahumul-lāhu maraḍā(n), wa lahum 'adhābun alīmum bimā kānū yakdhibūn
  • English Translation: In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): వాళ్ళ మనసుల్లో ఒక రోగం ఉంది, అందుకే అల్లాహ్ ఆ రోగాన్ని ఇంకా పెంచేశాడు. అబద్ధాలు చెప్పడం అలవాటు కాబట్టి, వాళ్ళకి చాలా బాధాకరమైన శిక్ష ఉంటుంది.

Verse 2:11

  • Arabic: وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ
  • Phonetic: Wa idhā qīla lahum lā tufsidu fil-arḍi qālū innamā naḥnu muṣliḥūn
  • English Translation: And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): "భూమి మీద అల్లర్లు సృష్టించకండి" అని వాళ్ళతో చెబితే, "మేము బాగుచేసే వాళ్ళం మాత్రమే" అని అంటారు.

Verse 2:12

  • Arabic: أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ
  • Phonetic: Alā innahum humul-mufsidūna wa lākin lā yash'urūn
  • English Translation: Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): ఖచ్చితంగా చెప్పాలంటే, వాళ్ళే నిజమైన అల్లర్లు సృష్టించేవాళ్ళు, కానీ అది వాళ్ళకి అర్థం కాదు.

Verse 2:13

  • Arabic: وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوا۟ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
  • Phonetic: Wa idhā qīla lahum āminū kamā āmanan-nāsu qālū anu'minu kamā āmanas-sufahā'(u), alā innahum humus-sufahā'(u) wa lākin lā ya'lamūn
  • English Translation: And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): "ప్రజలు నమ్మినట్టు మీరు నమ్మండి" అని వాళ్ళతో చెబితే, "మూర్ఖులు నమ్మినట్టు మేము నమ్మాలా?" అని అంటారు. నిజానికి, వాళ్ళే మూర్ఖులు, కానీ వాళ్ళకి అది తెలియదు.

Verse 2:14

  • Arabic: وَإِذَا لَقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ شَيَٰطِينِهِمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِءُونَ
  • Phonetic: Wa idhā laqul-ladhīna āmanū qālū āmannā wa idhā khalaw ilā shayāṭīnihim qālū innā ma'akum innamā naḥnu mustahzi'ūn
  • English Translation: And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): నమ్మిన వాళ్ళని కలిసినప్పుడు, "మేము నమ్ముతాము" అని అంటారు; కానీ వాళ్ళ చెడ్డ స్నేహితులతో ఉన్నప్పుడు, "మేము మీతోనే ఉన్నాము, మేము కేవలం ఆటపట్టించాము" అని అంటారు.

Verse 2:15

  • Arabic: ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
  • Phonetic: Allāhu yastahzi'u bihim wa yamudduhum fī ṭughyānihim ya'mahūn
  • English Translation: [But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): కానీ అల్లాహ్ వాళ్ళని ఆటపట్టిస్తాడు, వాళ్ళు తమ హద్దులు మీరి అంధులుగా తిరిగేలా చేస్తాడు.

Verse 2:16

  • Arabic: أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَٰرَتُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهْتَدِينَ
  • Phonetic: Ulā'ikal-ladhīnash-tarawuḍ-ḍalālata bil-hudā famā rabiḥat tijāratuhum wa mā kānū muhtadīn
  • English Translation: Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): వీళ్ళే సన్మార్గం వదిలేసి తప్పుదారిని కొనుక్కున్నవాళ్ళు. వాళ్ళ ఈ వ్యాపారం లాభం తేలేదు, వాళ్ళకి మార్గదర్శకత్వం దొరకలేదు.

Verse 2:17

  • Arabic: مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى ٱسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَلَمَّآ أَضَآءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُۥ ذَهَبَ ٱللَّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِى ظُلُمَٰتٍ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ
  • Phonetic: Mathaluhum kamathalil-ladhīstawaqada nāran falammā aḍā'at mā ḥawlahū dhahabal-lāhu binūrihim wa tarakahum fī ẓulumātil lā yubṣirūn
  • English Translation: Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.
  • Telugu Meaning (సాధారణంగా మాట్లాడే తెలుగులో): వాళ్ళ ఉదాహరణ, నిప్పు రాజేసినవాడిలాంటిది. చుట్టూ వెలుతురు రాగానే, అల్లాహ్ ఆ వెలుతురును తీసేసి, వాళ్ళను చీకట్లలో వదిలేశాడు, వాళ్ళు ఏమీ చూడలేకపోయారు.

Summary of Verses 2:8-2:17

English Summary: These verses describe hypocrites who outwardly claim faith but inwardly harbor disbelief and deceit. They try to deceive Allah and believers, unaware they harm themselves. Their hearts are diseased with hypocrisy, leading to painful consequences for their lies. They claim to be reformers while causing corruption, and mock believers as foolish, blind to their own folly. Allah responds to their mockery by prolonging their transgression and spiritual blindness, as they trade guidance for error, losing profit and true direction, left in darkness after rejecting light.

Telugu Summary (తెలుగులో సంక్షిప్త సారాంశం): ఈ వచనాలు కపటుల గురించి వివరిస్తాయి. వీళ్ళు పైకి నమ్మినట్లు నటిస్తారు కానీ లోపల అవిశ్వాసం, మోసం ఉంటాయి. వీళ్ళు అల్లాహ్‌ను, నమ్మినవాళ్ళను మోసం చేయాలనుకుంటారు, కానీ తమకే హాని చేసుకుంటారని గ్రహించరు. వాళ్ళ మనసులు కపటత్వం అనే రోగంతో ఉంటాయి, అబద్ధాలకు వాళ్ళకు కఠిన శిక్ష ఉంటుంది. తాము సంస్కర్తలం అని చెప్పుకుంటూనే అల్లర్లను సృష్టిస్తారు, నమ్మినవాళ్ళని మూర్ఖులు అనుకుంటారు, కానీ తమ మూర్ఖత్వం తమకే తెలియదు. అల్లాహ్ వాళ్ళ మోసాన్ని తిప్పికొట్టి, వాళ్ళ తప్పుదోవలో, ఆధ్యాత్మిక అంధత్వంలో వదిలేస్తాడు. వాళ్ళు మార్గదర్శకాన్ని వదిలి తప్పుదారిని ఎంచుకున్నారు, దీనివల్ల లాభం లేదు, వెలుగును తిరస్కరించిన తర్వాత చీకట్లలోనే మిగిలిపోయారు.

Applicability in the Present 21st Century

English Applicability: These verses are highly relevant today, addressing hypocrisy, deception, and corruption in public and private life. They stress authenticity over outward show, urge critical evaluation of those claiming to be reformers, and warn against intellectual arrogance. The ultimate lesson is that deception harms the deceiver, and rejecting truth leads to spiritual blindness, vital in an age of misinformation and complex moral choices.

Telugu Applicability (తెలుగులో వర్తమాన కాలానికి వర్తింపు): ఈ వచనాలు నేటి సమాజంలో కపటత్వం, మోసం, అవినీతి వంటి వాటికి బాగా వర్తిస్తాయి. అవి నిజాయితీకి ప్రాధాన్యతనిస్తాయి, సంస్కర్తలమని చెప్పుకునే వారి ఉద్దేశాలను జాగ్రత్తగా పరిశీలించమని కోరుతాయి, మరియు మేధో అహంకారం పట్ల హెచ్చరిస్తాయి. మోసగాళ్ళకు చివరికి వారికే హాని జరుగుతుందని, మరియు సత్యాన్ని తిరస్కరించడం ఆధ్యాత్మిక అంధత్వానికి దారితీస్తుందని ఈ వచనాలు ముఖ్యమైన పాఠాలుగా నిలుస్తాయి, ముఖ్యంగా తప్పుడు సమాచారం మరియు సంక్లిష్ట నైతిక ఎంపికలు ఉన్న ఈ కాలంలో ఇవి చాలా ముఖ్యం.

Ballia Reunion on 7.1.2026

My dear friends, Sometimes, life gives us a second chance to step into a photograph we thought had faded. This is the story of one such gift —a get-together of the  Ballia Babuas  on  07.01.2026  at the  Ramapriya Convention, Vijayawada . It began, as all beautiful things often do, with a simple message. About fifteen days prior, our dear friend  Mr. Ramachandra Rao Ji  posted an invitation in our WhatsApp group—a digital call that echoed across years and kilometres. Day by day, he added names to an animated list, each confirmation a spark rekindling a fire that had last burned in  Ballia , a town in eastern Uttar Pradesh on the banks of the Ganga. My Ballia Memories

My dear frineds, Greetings to you all. In this post I am sharing my memories attached to "Ballia", where I studied the one year Remedial Course and 2 years M.Sc(Ag) Economics Course, from 1980 to 83, in the SMMTPG College, Ballia.  Folloing is our College Photo. This is the back side of the college. After receipt of the front side photo, I will update it.   During the 1st year, I stayed in the College Hostel. And for the next two years, along with    Mr. Lakshmi Narayana [a M.Sc course student from Vijayawada], I took a Room on rent, in the Police Lines, Ballia. The House owner was Mrs. Suseela Gupata, a teacher. She, her Son     Mr. Suneel and we both students, use to stay in that House. Mr. Lakshminarayana vacated the room after completion of his course.
