My GRAMABANK Memories - 2

Hi, my dear,
Greetings.

Today I will share some of my memories about Sri Y Anand ji, to whom I reported for the duty, in the beginning of my SVGB journey, which was started in the month of September 1985.

At that time, he was working as the Branch Manager of the S R Puram Branch.
Today, i.e. on 16.8.2020, I spoke to him through WhatsApp video call [99664 12138], after a very long gap.
He is settled in Bangalore and leading peaceful post-retirement life.

After introducing me to the SR Puram Branch Staff on the first day of my job in the Bank, he asked me to read the Bank circulars, so as to know about the Bank.

During those days, there were no computers. Everything was done manual only.

I think on every 3rd or 4th Friday, we have to jot down the balances from the loan ledgers in the Balancing Books and tally their totals with the GL balance.

On one such Friday, Sri Anand ji asked me to jot down the Balances.

As I am from the science side, I don't have any idea about the accounting systems.

I jotted the balances in the Balance Books, without accuracy.
After observing this, Sri Anand ji clearly explained the importance of accuracy and made me to jot the figures once again.
In my entire banking service, "tallying of Books" was one of the hard problems to me.

On one day I was asked to sit in the Cash counter, as a part of job rotation.
By the evening there was cash shortage of Rs.100/.
In 1980s, Rs.100 was a quite a big amount.
After knowing about the cash shortage, Sir Anand ji located it by verifying the denominations on the back side of a withdrawal.
It was noticed that Rs.100 was paid excess by me to a customer.
The customer is well known to the branch and he is a rich farmer.
However, the customer refused to accept that he received any extra cash from me.
It was a good lesson for me that I should be careful, while dealing with cash transactions.

From September 1985 to the First Week of January 1986, Sri Anand ji & myself were in the SR Puram Branch.

As I got fresh appointment orders for the post of Branch Manger, I resigned to the FS post, got relieved from the SR Puram Branch, during the 2nd week of January 1986.

Later, my self and Sri Anand ji worked at HO Credit Credit Department, for some time.

As far as I remember, during my entire service, we never had conflicts on any issue.

In the year 2008, I submitted the resignation to the Bank job. At that time, Sri Anand ji was working as the Personnel Manager at HO.

In my absence, he made a phone call directly to my home and asked my wife to pursue for withdrawal of my resignation.

Like this, Sri Anand ji played very key role, in the beginning and ending of my service in the SVGB.

May ALMIGHTY bless Sri Anand ji with good health and peaceful life.

Regards🙏

PS: I request my ex.colleagues to post their opinions about Sri Anand ji, in the below comments box.
