My GRAMABANK Memories - 1
Originally this blog-post was published on 15.7.2020.
Hi, my dear,
Greetings.
As you are aware, I worked in the "Shri Venkateswara Grameena Bank [SVGB]," presently known as the Saptagiri Grameena Bank [SGB], from September 1985 to February 2009.
In this present "My GRAMABANK Memories - series" I will be sharing my happy and sad memories, in a sequence, which occurred during my 23 years of service in the SVGB/SGB.
To start-with.........
Through BSRB [Banking Service Recruitment Board] selection process held during the year 1985, I attended for the interviews in the SVGB, for the officer [Field Supervisor and Branch Manager] cadre posts.
At that time, the SVGB with its 66 Branches located in remote villages [except Chittoor & Tirupati towns], operating only in the Chittoor District. Of-course, now many branches are relocated to the towns and the Bank is operating in both Chittoor and Krishna districts.
[Above is the photo of Sri N Chandrasekhar Rao ji [Ph: 98407 46751], the then Chairman of the Bank. Presently he resides at D.No. 31, 2nd Street, Krishanpuri, R A Puram, Chennai]
After receipt of the interview call letter, I contacted Mr. Ramachandra Reddy, the then BM of Tirupati Branch, to inquire about the Bank. He received me very cordially and gave the details of the Bank. [This person later resigned to the Bank job, as he got the MRO post].
I still remember one of the questions posed by the Chairman in the FS interview ....
"You studied in big cities and acquired good educational qualifications. But, once you join in this Grameena Bank, then you have to stay in the villages. Don't you think that your children should have good education, like you????"
For that my reply was, "Sir, my own house is in Tiruapti. It is a good educational center. I will keep my family there, when my children come to the school education stage".
First I received the appointment order from the SVGB, for the post of FS cadre officer at S R Puram Branch, in the month of September 1985.
I requested my cousin, Sri. Iqbal ji, to accompany me.
Both of us started from Tirupati in the morning and reached the Branch by afternoon.
SR Puram is a village, located at a distance of 1KM in the Chittoor - Puttur Main road.
Sri Y Anand ji was the Branch Manager of S R Puram Branch.
After completing the Joining time formalities, my cousin left me there and gone.
The BM introduced me to the Branch Staff. There were 1 FS and 2 clerks in the Branch.
The FS cadre Officer was Sri Sartaj Hussain ji.
[Photo of Sri Sartaj Hussain ji will be uploaded after receipt of the same]
[Sri Sartaj Hussain ji, Ph: 86398 78115, retired and resides in Kadapa now.]
The Senior Clerk was Sri G Varaprasad ji.
Another clerk was Sri Vijaya Kumar ji. He resigned to SVGB and joined in Andhra Bank.
We, means Sri Anand ji, Sri Sartaj Hussain ji, Sri Varaprasad ji and Sri Vijayakumar ji, used to live in the rented houses of the village itself.
Sri Anand ji was married and living with his wife and Children in a house.
Remaining all of us were unmarried at that time and we were living jointly in another house.
As there were no hotels in the village, an old woman use to cook food for us.
S R Puram is a very small village with approximately 50 households.
Sugarcane cultivation is the main occupation of the people, besides diary farming.
In those days, it is one of the rich villages of that area.
I will share other details, my memories / feelings, positive & negative experiences, etc, in my ensuing posts.
The intention behind this sharing is to,,,,,,,,, recollect the past, get connected once-again with my ex. colleagues with whom I lost the contacts and also to provide some guidance, to the younger generations working in the Bank as well as in other professions.
Hope you will enjoy reading this.
Regards 🙏.
